Norman Gillis

Mr. Norman Alexander Gillis was born in Falkland, B.C, in 1905. His parents came to the area in 1900 and homesteaded in the Glenema area. Norman's father, Ewen Gillis, was the first teacher at the Glenema School as well as the Justice of the Peace.

Norman, a batchelor, had two sisters, Florence and Irene, who also never married. They remained at home and worked the dairy farm with Norman and his parents.

Both of Norman's sisters, as well as his parents predeceased him. Norman continued to run the farm until after the age of eighty.

As Norman was the last survior of his immediate family, he felt it was appropriate that a portion of his estate be given to chairty. Since he lived in Falkland all of his life, he also felt that it was important that the community benefit from his estate.  He was happy to know that his bequeathment to Falkland School and local community groups would benefit many people for years to come. The students, teachers and parents at Falkland School are deeply moved and grateful for his extreme generosity and good will.
